Birse Metro Awarded Hammersmith Station Remodelling Contract - 24.12.2009
Birse Metro has been successful in bidding for the first phase of remodelling
work at Hammersmith Station for LUL Nominee SSL Limited.
The whole scheme comprises the lengthening of the existing three platforms of
the Hammersmith and City line station and associated enabling works. The lengthening
is to be achieved by extending platform 1 and 2 into the concourse area currently
occupied by the ticket office building, which is to be demolished, and by extending
platform 3 into the ground floor of the current Train Crew Accommodation building,
which is to be vacated when the train crew occupies new accommodation being provided
in Hammersmith Grove to the north west of the station.
The first phase of work includes the relocation of the existing ticket gatelines,
installation and commissioning of new passenger operated ticketing facilities
and associated rooms and creation of an additional circulation area within a recently
vacated tenancy.
The remaining three phases are:
Phase A2
Demolition of the ticket office building and construction of a new secure suite
and ticket office within the recently vacated tenancy; extension of platforms
1 & 2; extension of platform 3.
Phase B1
Undertake Principal Contractor duties during track modifications (by others)
adjacent to platform 3.
Phase B2
Extend platform 3 northwards (after Phase B1 is completed).
Additionally, during the first phase Birse Metro is working with London Underground
by providing buildability input to finalise the design and establish a revised
target cost to deliver the whole scheme.
