Birse Metro's Electrical Division achieves important milestones at Brixton Station - 26.2.2010
Two major milestones have been achieved at Brixton. The first was the NOWRI
(Notification of Works Ready for Inspection) and BIU (Bringing Into Use) of the
new station Communications Equipment Room (CER) located on the roof of the building,
and the Station Operations Room (SOR) located in the booking hall area. These
two rooms are the operational centres of any station, and therefore are critical
areas requiring specialist electrical equipment to ensure the station can function,
even in the event of a total supply failure.
BML have installed, tested and commissioned the UPS System for the dedicated
circuits in the SOR and an auto change-over system for the continuous running
of the CER equipment on the roof. This is achieved by building new switchrooms
and installing switchpanels, installing new steel wired armoured cabling on tray
distribution boards; and finally the installation of sub-circuits to the relevant
equipment.
The second milestone was BML’s achievement of the NOWRI and BIU of the platform
lighting at Brixton Station. The inspection was carried out on the CMS system
and cabling to the Nyphan outlets – in addition, the IP rating of the fittings
was inspected, and Lux levels taken. The new Selux lighting system is now on
a 48 hour fault free test, and once this is achieved, the removal of the existing
Church House System can commence.
